3 Different Types Of Custom Tubing To Consider For Your Product

Posted on: 26 June 2020

If you need some custom plastic tubing made for a product you are creating, you need to think carefully about what type of plastic you use for the project. Different types of tubes offer different advantages based on what you need to use the tube for.

Type #1: Hard Plastic Tubing

Hard plastic tubing is generally made from either polycarbonate or from acrylic plastic. Hard plastic tubing is really rigid, and it doesn't really offer very much flexibility. You only want to use hard plastic tubing in a product where you need the tubing to run from point a to point b in a straight line; it isn't great for products that require more flexibility.

Hard plastic tubing does not easily get damaged, making it a great choice if you need tubing that can withstand abrasions or contact. As far as color, you can purchase opaque hard plastic tubing so you can kind of see the liquids flowing inside of the tubing.

Type #2: Medical Tubing

Medical tubing is another type of plastic tubing. Medical tubing is an overarching term that is used to refer to all types of plastic tubing that are used in a medical application. For example, the tubing used in an IV drip or used in a catheter are both considered medical tubing.

Medical tubing tends to be strong, yet flexible. You can easily bend a catheter tube or an IV line. This flexibility is often central to the functionality of the tubing in the medical device or application.

Additionally, medical tubing tends to be either clear or opaque as it is generally important to be able to see what is inside of the tubing.

Type #3: Corrugated Tubing

Corrugated tubing has a really unique design. Inside of the tubing, it has ridges and valleys. The ridges and valleys inside of the tubing are designed to facilitate a low flow of liquids for the tubing. Corrugated tubing comes in various sizes, which can be customized for your product.

Corrugated tubing is used in many different industries, such as the medical and industrial industries. It can also be made out of a variety of different materials, such as nylon, polyethylene, or PVC. Corrugated tubing is often used in applications where the tubing is reused a few times and then recycled, and the materials used to make the tubing help to facilitate this.

When it comes to choosing the right custom tubing for your product, you need to think about what properties you want the tubing to have, such as how rigid you want the tubing to be or if you want to be able to see through the tubing. Use these factors to help you choose the right material for your product. A custom manufacturer will be happy to supply you with prototypes so you can figure out the right material for your product.

Industrial Goods and Beyond

When you work in manufacturing, you know there's a wide range of goods to be produced. Manufacturing sheet metal is quite different from manufacturing gears or bolts, for example. However, in spite of the variety in products, there are some basics that remain true regardless of the product. Your processes need to be consistent and precise. You need to have good quality control in place and to test your items regularly. You can learn more about those topics and others right here on this blog, where we focus on an array of manufacturing topics. Start reading, and watch your knowledge base begin to grow.
